Samvaad 2019: A Fascinating Week Curating Tribal Music

An incredible week spent collaborating and performing with more than 90 tribal musicians at an amazing festival celebrating music and our ethnicity. Our biggest project till date, the work we did with these fantastic artists resulted in one grand show that had a city to its feet!

Samvaad is a unique festival organized by Tata Steel in Jamshedpur, in celebration of tribal-culture. In November, more than 90 musicians from 16 tribes travelled to Jamshedpur from across the country to participate in this 5-day conclave celebrating tribalism.

This year, we had the incredible fortune to curate, collaborate, and perform with them. This has been one the largest projects that we have worked on so far and it was so enriching for us – both as musicians and individuals.

Swarathma & Rhythms of The Earth Collective: Our Collaboration

Rhythms of The Earth Collective was formed by musicians belonging to 16 indigenous tribes came together for Samvaad 2019. We collaborated with them over a few days to put up one grand show!

The show had to be all about them – these fantastic artists and their unique music. If it wasn’t for music, we don’t know how we would have come together with them.

We started out by making friends – sitting on charpoys sharing meals and learning about each other’s musical instruments. We started out by making friends – sitting on charpoys sharing meals and learning about each other’s musical instruments.

An easy camaraderie grew – quite rapidly, with them, our fellow musicians, young and old, men and women, who had different stories, but the same great vibe.

Curation: A week of Learning, Sharing and Joy

It was a week of immersion in tribal music, culture, and folklore – we will carry this with us as we make more and ever more beautiful music in the days to come.

We got much more from than we gave to this project – this is us all-smiles and that says it all!
